The Dumaguete City Smart City is a GO!

Dumaguete Smart City Project

The City Government of Dumaguete has organized a public hearing. The hearings are for the 174-hectare reclamation project to hear all sides of the argument.

This article is my personal opinion that there’s no point in arguing with the city government. And I believe that this project is a GO.

It all makes sense now.

In the past months, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte made visits to Dumaguete. The president’s visits were not political. He did not come to the city to campaign for a candidate. But seeing the project unveil now, his visits now make sense. The president, to my personal opinion, came to the city to discuss the finality of the implementation of the project.

We all know that the Philippines has a lot of debt in China.

China is very intelligent in making their money work for them. They lend poor countries money for what they say development. These countries lack technical resources for complex projects. As a result, it would hire Chinese affiliated companies to work on the project.

And later, if the Philippines will fail in paying China back the debts, it can acquire our assets. This is capitalism at its finest.

The Dumaguete Smart City project is a GO

Thus, this brings me to the point that this project is a GO. The public hearings of Dumaguete for the Smart City project are only a show to make it look like there’s transparency in the process. This project that would destroy the beautiful bays of Dumaguete is supported by the National Government. And I don’t think the Dumaguete City officials supporting the project would back out from this unless they want to destroy their political careers.

They all have their own political ambitions and at the same time, they are also entrepreneurs. Thus in one way or another, they can benefit from the Smart City project.

Final Thoughts about the Dumaguete Smart City Project

Personally, I don’t want this project to continue. The project will destroy the natural beauty of the city. This is on top of the harmful impact on the environment that this project would bring. Aside from the destruction of marine life in the bays of Dumaguete, the project will also be bringing massive amounts of land and boulders.

The Smart City project is not only an environmental destruction of Dumaguete. It will also kill a mountain someplace else.

I do hope that the Government officials of Dumaguete will set aside their political ambitions and care more for the environment and at the same time look for sustainable solutions for city development.
